Tree removal in Chorlton, Manchester

This giant poplar tree had become far too big for its location in between two properties in Chorlton, Manchester.

The tree’s root system had severely damaged both driveways and the public footpath. Concerns of damage to the properties foundations were also raised and the decision to fell the tree was reached.

Having checked the tree had no tree preservation order, tree surgeon Steve safely climbed the tree via rope access and expertly section felled the poplar down to its main stem. The huge amount of debris was chipped systematically by the team as it came down, keeping the ground area safe and unimpeded.

A man lift was brought in to enable safe sectioning of the stem that still stood at around 30ft and had a 5-6ft circumference at that height. Finally, tractor trailer units were brought to the site and the enormous amount of timber was removed before the tree stump was ground away.

On this particular job we were visited by a tree officer from Manchester council. He had heard that the tree was being removed and had stopped in to see that the work was being carried out in an appropriate way.

He was impressed with our work and the size of the tree, commenting that it was possibly one of the largest trees in Manchester. However, he understood the negative impact it was having on the properties affected, and left happy that all works were being carried out by a professional tree surgeon.
